June 5, 2026 – With the amendments the Assembly required, there was not enough time left in the session to make the changes to the Senate version and pass the legislation. Thank you to everyone who helped! We will renew this effort in January.

May 19, 2026 – The Burial Records bill (A10242A) needed some changes and has now moved out of the Assembly Mental Health Committee and to Way & Means. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Let’s keep the progress going!

January 14, 2026 – Our Burial Records Bill (S8903) has been sponsored by Senator Patricia Fahy and co-sponsored by Senator Mario Mattera and is now working its way through the NY Senate.

January 7, 2026 – Our Medical Records bills (S4713A and A3733A) are now working their way through the NYS Legislature. S4713A is in the Mental Health Committee for review.

May 25, 2025 – The New York Court of Appeals ruled that the public interest in disclosure of Department of Health Death Index records outweighs the privacy interest in withholding this information.

May 15, 2025 – The Medical Records bill (S4713A) passed the NYS Senate, but due to a lack of time in the legislative session, the Assembly version did not progress. Both will have to be re-introduced in the 2026 session.
